Throughout Kentucky, there’s a sound, one you may not have noticed. It's the sound of a beating heart that beats stronger and louder because of world-class heart care provided by Cincinnati Children’s.
And now, we’ve brought that same care closer to home in Elizabethtown and throughout Greater Louisville and Western Kentucky.
Our goal is to provide excellent pediatric, adult congenital and fetal cardiac care — with expanded services, including preventive care, comprehensive testing, telehealth visits and bilingual providers.
Bradley Keller, MD, Medical Director, Louisville & Western Kentucky Practice: “Cincinnati Children’s has made a commitment to expand services to the areas that are requesting our care. So, as a pediatric cardiologist with 30 years of experience, one of the greatest things is the ability just to continue to increase access to care for families and for their children and for our adults with congenital heart disease. And most importantly, I think, we now have the ability to see all of our new patients in three days, and the same day if that’s requested.”
Cincinnati Children’s is a top-ranked hospital with eight locations in the region. Our providers live right here in the community. And we’ve teamed up with Kentucky Children’s Hospital to provide the Joint Heart Program and superior outcomes for both pediatric heart care and adults born with heart defects.
Craig Alexander, MD, Adult Congenital Heart Disease Specialist: “Adult congenital heart care is important because there's many patients that were born with congenital heart disease that, actually, with the advances we’ve done in congenital heart care, are now reaching adulthood. Cincinnati Children’s was one of the first programs, and actually the first program in the region, to be a nationally accredited adult congenital heart disease program. And that means that we have all the different specialties that can assist with the care of these adults with congenital heart disease. And studies have actually shown the benefit of those programs. The outcomes for those patients are actually much better when they’re established in these programs.”
Cincinnati Children's also provides heart care before babies are born.
Meagan Peek, MD, Pediatric Cardiologist, Fetal Heart Specialist: “One of my primary specialties here at Cincinnati Children’s is to perform fetal echocardiograms. So, those are ultrasounds specifically of the baby’s heart before they’re born. And that is a procedure where we can check the heart and make sure there aren’t any problems or defects with the heart. And if there are, we can find them and know them prior to the baby getting here. Being able to be here locally and provide for these moms and these babies close to home is a huge advantage for these families. A lot of our families travel quite a distance even to get to someplace like Elizabethtown."
Dr. Keller: “When you have one heart surgery, and that’s the surgery you’re going to have, you want that to be the best possible surgery."
Should your baby or child need heart surgery, you will have access to internationally renowned heart surgeons at Cincinnati Children’s. We have some of the best surgery outcomes and shortest post-surgical hospital stays in the country.
And after surgery, you don’t have to travel far to follow up with our experts in Kentucky. We continue to broaden heart care for our patients. Because bringing heart care close to home, is something we do with a lot of heart.
