Systemic racism, social marginalization and oppression have created disproportionate challenges in accessing quality general health care, mental health care and substance use treatment services for historically marginalized populations, including Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+ communities and rural communities. Despite these challenges, historically marginalized communities have persevered and shown resilience.
The ECHO Model is a virtual learning framework that can be used by health care organizations to explore, navigate and address intersectional challenges and opportunities to improve health equity across the country. This video briefly describes the ways in which the Center of Excellence for Integrated Health Solutions (CoE-IHS) has implemented the ECHO model to advance health equity in integrated care settings.
