Electrical Discharge Machines are used in watchmaking to mass produce precise and intricate components that are difficult or time consuming using traditional techniques. When I was in Switzerland, I had the luxury of playing with this. You quickly realize how tight the tolerances can be when machine from blocks of steel. It works by using wires and sparks to erode metal from a workpiece, allowing for extremely fine details and tight tolerances.
