It is considered one of the indicators for metabolism of bilirubin and it is measured in urine. Formed in the intestine by the effect of bacteria. The presence of normal level indicates normal bilirubin metabolism. However, increased level indicates hemolytic jaundice. However, it may be absent from urine. and indicates obstructive jaundice.
