⏰😳 This is called ‘microsleep’: When wakefulness is interrupted by seconds-long eye closure and sleep-related brain activity.
🐧🤔 You may have guessed the reason behind this unique sleeping strategy. They need to be constantly aware of predators, especially when nesting.
🪺😴 Is 4 seconds at a time enough for these penguins? A recent study has found that chinstrap penguins managed to accumulate almost 11 hours of sleep a day doing this.
