July 6th is National Air Traffic Control Day! On July 6, 1936, under the Department of Commerce, the Bureau of Air Commerce began control of air traffic to improve system safety in the United States. On the 50th anniversary of its founding, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed on July 6, 1986 National Air Traffic Control Day and it has been observed every year since.
For today, Howard letterpress printed a small photo engraving of an aircraft taking flight. This cut is from the Bill Gaylord Collection and we hope this print flies well for today. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852.
