The legend of the Princess Cave
There are a number of folk tales surrounding the cave. According to one legend, Phra Nang was an Indian princess who was killed in a shipwreck and her spirit found its way to the cave. In another tale, Phra Nang was the wife of a local fisherman who was lost at sea. The bereaved wife lived out the rest of her days in the cave, waiting her husband’s return.
Today, local fisherman and boatmen leave offerings in Phra Nang cave to ensure safe travel on the sea or to help with fertility. These offers take the form of phallic-shaped statues meant to represent the Hindu god Shiva. The offerings in Phra Nang cave are especially realistic. They are decorated with colorful cloth, and the cave is almost always filled with the smell of incense.
Legenda Pesterii Printesei
Sotia îndurerata a trait restul zilelor in pestera, asteptand revenirea sotului ei.
Astazi, pescarii locali si marinarii lasa oferte in pestera Phra Nang pentru a asigura calatorii in siguranta pe mare sau a ajuta la fertilitate. Aceste oferte iau forma statuetelor in forma falica menite sa reprezinte zeul hindus Shiva.
