Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno I Prayers to Jesus The Black Nazarene

The Black Nazarene, also known as "Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno" or "Mahal na Poong Nazareno" in Filipino, is a life-sized, dark-colored statue of Jesus Christ carrying the Cross. It is venerated in the Philippines and is associated with the annual religious procession known as the "Traslación."

The statue is believed to have been brought to Manila by Augustinian friars in 1606. Its dark color is said to be the result of a fire that damaged the original image during its transport from Mexico. Despite the damage, the image became revered for its supposed miraculous powers and has been enshrined in the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, also known as the Quiapo Church, in Manila.

Devotees believe that the Black Nazarene has the power to grant miracles and provide protection. The annual Traslación is a major religious event where millions of devotees participate in a procession, pulling and accompanying the carroza (carriage) carrying the Black Nazarene through the streets of Manila. The event is marked by fervent expressions of faith, with devotees often walking barefoot and enduring physical discomfort as a form of penance or in fulfillment of vows.

The Black Nazarene devotion is deeply rooted in Filipino Catholicism and has become one of the most significant religious and cultural events in the country. The feast day of the Black Nazarene is celebrated every January 9, attracting large crowds of devotees from various parts of the Philippines.
