The Covid-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinovac Biotech was found to be more than 50 per cent effective based on analysis of its phase-three trial conducted in São Paulo state, Brazil. The announcement, made by Brazilian trial partner Butantan Institute on December 23, 2020, marks a major step forward for the Chinese-developed jab – one of several front runners in the global race for a Covid-19 vaccine – whose doses have already been bought by countries around the world. However, Sinovac Biotech requested the institute delay releasing full results of their late-stage trial of the so-called CoronaVac vaccine to consolidate it with data from other trials, including those in Indonesia and Turkey.
