Quick ID guide for northern pike (Esox lucius.) I'll show you where to look and what to look for.

Check for fully scaled cheek and partly scaled opercle.
Usually 5 submandibular pores (sometimes 4 or 6.)
Check the branchiostegal rays, usually 13-16.
Check the suborbital line or teardrop (black line) under the eye; it will be vertical, not pronounced, and not extend very far from the eye.
