The HQ-9 long-range anti-aircraft missile system is crafted to counter enemy aircraft, cruise missiles, and helicopters at all heights of their use, regardless of day or night, and in all kinds of weather. As the most current of the third-generation air defense missile systems of China, it is known for its high performance, even in a complicated electromagnetic interference atmosphere that involves a massive enemy air offensive. Additionally, HQ-9 is China's first complex having the capacity to intercept ground-to-ground tactical ballistic missiles.

At the Africa Aerospace and Defense Exhibition in Cape Town (South Africa) in March 2009, CPMIEC showcased a version of the FT-2000 complex. The missile system is designed to counter long-range radar reconnaissance aircraft and other radio-emitting targets, equipped with a passive radar homing head. Despite the capability of the FT-2000, serial production has yet to be initiated due to the lack of orders from the PLA and foreign buyers.
