Arguably the best thing about women revolutionizing the rap game is that, like a fantastic feedback loop, it inspires ladies such as Kaliii to pick up the mic. When the Atlanta native’s dreams of being on the U.S. Women’s National Team fell short, she kicked the soccer ball away and started netting more time in the studio. “Soccer is a team sport and you have to be working with your teammates to win,” she once reflected. “I feel like that's everyday life, like me collaborating with other female rappers, working with my peers.” That perspective contains the type of wisdom that’ll give an artist a leg up on the competition; so does the fact that the rhymer born Kaliya Ross was raised around musicians and studio life. That on-mic confidence comes through in a big way on “Area Codes,” her breakout 2023 track that earned more than a million creations on TikTok (don’t forget to check the high school shenanigans of its hilarious office video, btw). It’s amazing how fast a single success can domino into a litany of 'em when you have a mindset like Kaliii with three i’s. Within a few months of her viral fame, she was back to collaborating - this time with K-pop’s FIFTY FIFTY for a track on the Barbie soundtrack. Now add “GRAMMY winner” before her name when you speak it. “Say Too Much” is from her ‘FCK GIRL SZN’ EP, the type of project that leaves fans craving more. Luckily we were able to capture this little snack in the meantime to hold ya over.
