The Favourite brings together Emma Stone, Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, Mark Gatiss, Joe Alwyn (aka Mr Taylor Swift) and Nicholas Hoult for a period comedy typical of director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Dogtooth, Alps). The film came to the capital tonight for the 2018 London Film Festival and we spoke to the cast (yes, that includes Taylor Swift's Boyfriend) on the red carpet.
The cast talked about making a very different period drama, not beholden to historical accuracy, and how they were encouraged to have as much fun as possible. Emma Stone talked about being part of the three amazing women leading the film, how the rehearsal period helped the characters come out. Joe Alwyn talked about working with the director and Rachel Weisz in particular about the dance sequence. He calls the film 'dark, bawdy, twisted, violent and fun.'
The Favorite stars Emma Delves, Faye Daveney. James Smith, Willem Dalby and Anthony Dougall.
PLOT: In early 18th century England, a frail Queen Anne (Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Weisz) governs the country in her stead. When a new servant Abigail (Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah.
Colin Hart and Scott Davis were our crew on the red carpet
The Favourite is released on the 23rd of November, 2018 and on New Year’s Day, 2019 in the UK.
