Well I’m Senior Associate and Team Leader for the Work-Related Stress Team.
What we’re dealing with are recognised psychiatric injuries like depression or anxiety or PTSD and things like that. So if a client comes to me who’s suffered with something like that as a result of their work, that’s the type of claim that I can help them with.
My route to law was quite traditional.
One of my friends once told me that you don’t choose the law, the law chooses you, and so I think that’s quite apt in my case.
I’ve been here ten months but it does seem like ten years and I mean that in a good way for what we’ve achieved in such a short time.
So when other firms who perhaps dabble in this area and perhaps cherry pick the work, because it is difficult, we can say this is all we do.
If you’re hard working, you’re bright, intelligent, you have ambition, it’s the type of place where I think you can thrive, and that’s what I look for. I believe in a meritocracy where if you’re good enough and you’re dedicated enough then the rewards are there to be had.
So we have probably the best secretary in the world, and I also have two fabulous assistants who didn’t have any experience in this area before joining the team but are flourishing and will become fantastic lawyers in their own right. My hope is that we’re going to expand.
We’re all here to serve the same purpose: do the best for our clients and give them an opportunity to bring a claim that not many other law firms are able to do.
The thing which I really appreciate working here is I don’t have that Sunday night dread that I once had and it’s just a feeling of I like what I do and I’m happy in my job and long may it continue.
