Roy Scheider, a two-time Oscar nominee best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie "Jaws," died Sunday, Feb 10, 2008. He was 75 and lived in Sag Harbor, N.Y.
On March 18, 2003 Roy Scheider took part in an anti-war protest. Scheider joined a dedicated group of protestors in laying down on the yellow line in the center of the Montauk Highway in Sagaponack - cars and trucks slowly driving by, some honking in support - to protest US entry into a war with Iraq. His interview gave us pause to think about what it means to go to war. He was a wonderful man who was not afraid to standup for peace in a public way.
