Homilies for Busy People: Brad Paisley and Jesus! Mark 5:21-43 Thirteenth Sunday Ordinary Time B

There is a song by Brad Paisley called “To the World” in which he basically sings that “To the World you may just be another girl, but to me, girl you are the world.”

Well, we have to girls in the Gospel today whose names we don’t even know: a girl who is dying and a woman suffering from hemorrhages. If their names weren’t mentioned here, chances are they were not that important to the people then.

But not to Jesus.

Jesus wanted to acknowledge both females in this Gospel story by going to the dying girl and by finding out who touched his clothes. Because although to the world these two women may have only been just two women, to Jesus you were the world. And you too: there are times you may feel like you are just another person to the world; but to Jesus you are the world. That why he came; that’s why you are watching this; that’s why he gave you his whole being in the Eucharist and in his Word.
