Hey guys, it's Jake here with the etrailer today, we have a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and we're going to be showing you how to install and going over some of the features of the Retrax pro MX tonneau cover. This is going to be a retractable tonneau cover. That's going to have a hard surface on it to be able to protect your contents from the weather and from theft. Before we go into too many details, I want to go ahead and show you how it works. You're going to need to open up your protective cover here, push the push button unlock, it'll unlatch your locking mechanism on the inside. And then you can use this as a handle to push your cover open. You see it retracts, and it is going to be spring loaded so that it's going to help you to get it open and close. Now, when you lock up the contents on the inside of your bed is simply pushed down.
It locks into place and you take your included key and lock it up. This is going to prevent anyone from coming in to open up your cover. Then you can take the dust and water cover and put it over top. Now, my favorite thing about this is that I've used many different locks over the course of the year. And water will tend to get in on the inside of your lock core and in the winter it'll turn to ice and you won't be able to get your key inside the lock.
So this is going to prevent any of that unnecessary dirt and ice build up on the inside of your lock. Now with a lot of other covers. You're only going to have a few options of where to travel with the cover, either in the closed position or the open position. A lot of them, you can only flip it back once or twice. If you have the flip back type or you have to roll it up all the way to the cab of the vehicle, but the Retrax pro you can roll it out to whatever spot you desire. Here.
We have a ladder sticking out the bed of our truck and pull it out all the way and then lock it into place. So now we know that our load is safe and our cover is covering any other contents that are in our bed.Now it's a canister style, retractable, tonneau cover such as the Retrax. You're not going to have to worry about that roll up of your tonneau cover, up here in the roll-up style. So you roll up from the back of your bed and then you have a big role at your back window. That's going to take away some sight out of your rear view window, but you do see we'll take up some space on the inside of your bed with our retracts.
It's going to take up about 13 and a half inches up towards the bulkhead. So just keep that in mind. Now this cover is going to feature a series of heavy duty rollers, which is going to make it easy to pull your cover back and into place. And when you first get your cover, it may be a little bit more difficult to pull back, but that's just because the seals had to be broken in. They're really tight at the beginning, but that's because retracts wants it to have a good seal so that you don't have much water getting in on the inside. Now up here on our bulkhead. You'll see that our cap for our canister is going to have a nice clean, flat look. It's going to be flush with the rest of your tonneau cover, and look just as good as the rest of your tonneau cover. Most of its competitors are going to have a big cap. That's going to stick up about an inch, inch and a half from the bed of your vehicle. So in my eyes, that takes away from the cleanliness of your tonneau cover. Retrax has got it figured out to where they got their cap flush, and it will not take away from the look to your vehicle. The covers only going to stick in on the inside of your bed, about two inches and above your bed. About one inch on this center rail part on the side rails, it's going to be a nice clean flush Mount. And with the wider design we have here, it's going to cover almost your entire side rail. There are other options here available at each rail. The cover itself, the rails and the canister are going to have a durable aluminum construction. They're also all going to have a nice matte black powder coat finish to give your truck a nice sleek look. The cover itself is going to have a 500 pound evenly distributed weight capacity, which is impressive for a tonneau cover so that if you do have to set anything up here temporarily to throw it in your bed, you can do that. Now on the cover, you are going to have a rubber seal at the bulkhead, a rubber seal at the tailgate and foam seals on both sides. This is going to help to prevent any water from getting in soaking the contents on the inside. Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's go ahead and show you how we got it installed. To start our ins
