Genital hygiene is of concern in boys and girls because of not cleaned, it can give rise to infection. The infections can be bacterial, fungal or viral because of the sexual practices which people are adopting at a very young age. So keep the area clean with soap and water. Avoiding irritants in that area is also very important as out of curiosity, people can use creams or perfumes or does in that area abs cause contact irritant dermatitis. So refrain from this. When there is an irritation, consult a dermatologist these areas are sensitive and infection can spread faster and it can give you a lot of discomfort. Keep the hygiene by removal of the hairs especially in women. It is done by simple shaving or trimming or by laser hair reduction. All over the world laser hair reduction is the preferred modality and a very safe procedure which after 8 – 10 sittings, gives you about 70-80% permanent hair reduction. Another 20 -30% of the hairs left behind become very soft and they are no very bothersome. In boys, they have to clean the area beneath the prepuceal skin. So it has to be cleaned every day with soap and water by pulling back the skin and after cleaning pull it over the glans penis. This reduces the infection chances. When there are lot of infections inspite of these things, the circumcision is the preferred method. It removes the excess skin and it maintains the hygiene and health in that area.
