(14 Jul 1978) French President, Valery Giscard d'Estaing, attended celebrations in paris as France celebrated Bastille Day on Friday July 14. The public holiday celebrates the storming of the Bastille (fortified prison) at the start of the French revolution in 1789. The streets of Paris resounded to the traditional military parade. 8000 men and women, members of French armed forces in 39 groups, march down the Champs Elysees. First cadets from the polytechnic military school, then young officers from the naval college. The military parade on the Champs Elysees marks a return to tradition.
