Many of us have heard the phrase, “jump the shark.” It’s when a long-running TV show has run out of ideas, so they come up with outlandish events in a desperate attempt to top all the previous episodes. When the writers run out of fresh ideas and have done all they could possibly do with the characters, they do something similar to what they did on the show “Happy Days.” In season five, they had Fonzie jump over a shark while on water skis.
Shows like “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” “Spongebob Squarepants,” and “Fairly Oddparents,” have been around for a pretty long time. It’s only natural that they would run out of ideas sooner or later. But hey, they had a good run, right? Some cartoons have just lasted way too long. As the Byrds said, “There is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” We think these cartoons have reached their time.
