The final years of the 17th and the 18th century was a dark time for Vaisnabha faith. The teaching of Sree Chaitanya was not followed. In such times the Gaudiya vaishnavism mission was revived by the solitary effort of Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur. He was the deputy magistrate of Chapra district. In recognition of his vaisnabha merits he was made the superintendent of the Jaganath Temple at Puri. On 6th February 1874 a son was born to him. The son was named Bimala Prasad. The son was really gifted and was given the title of Siddhanta Saraswati. After having a spiritual initiation from Srila Gour Kishore Babaji in 1905 he took sanyasa in 1918 and was known as Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada. he set up the Sri Chaitanya Math at Mayapur and also at Kolkata. Later it was shifted to its current location at Baghbazar. There are 64 Math in India and abroad and the number is ever growing. The souls and mission of Gaudiya Math for the last 100 years is to spread the divine preaching of Sree Chaitnya.
