In the midst of a water crisis that has forced thousands to migrate, some villages have succeeded in beating the drought on their own.
Prominent among them is Kadvanchi in Jalna, which has 650 ponds and cultivates grapes on 1,500 acres. Through effective watershed conservation techniques, the village manages to keep its ponds alive in a time of drought.
Another such drought-proof village is Aadha in Jaffrabad taluk, where the Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) has been helping villagers in Aadha. 170 of Aadha's wells still have water just 20 feet deep even during the drought.
