Former Pakistan cricket star Kamran Akmal faced heavy criticism for a distasteful remark about India's fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. During the T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Pakistan on Sunday, Akmal was part of the ARY News cricket panel discussing the game. With 18 runs needed for victory, Arshdeep was tasked with bowling the final over and managed to secure a six-run win for India. However, Akmal sparked controversy by making a comment about Arshdeep's religion.
"Anything can happen... it's already 12," Akmal remarked. Another guest added, "No Sikh should be given the over at 12 midnight," prompting laughter from Akmal. Social media users heavily criticized the comment as racist, and former India spinner Harbhajan Singh posted a strong response.
" You should know the history of Sikhs before you open your filthy mouth. We Sikhs saved your mothers and sisters when they were abducted by invaders; the time invariably was 12 o'clock. Shame on you…Have some gratitude," Harbhajan posted on X (formerly Twitter). In response to the backlash, Kamran Akmal has now publicly apologized to harbhajan singh and the sikh community on Twitter for his racist remarks.
