Here's the 22-second footage showing an A2/3 4-6-2 locomotive numbered 60513 "Dante" backing down to pull the semi-fast train from London Kings Cross to its home city in the early 1960s. The locomotive seems to be covered in grime and dirty in this footage.
The locomotive itself was built in August 1946 and was the 4th member of the A2/3 class designed by Edward Thompson. The locomotive and its class suffered excessive wheelslipage, major steam leakage, and high coal consumption. The locomotive was withdrawn in April 1963. All of the A2/3 were scrapped when the last A2/3 (numbered 60512 "Steady Aim") was withdrawn in June 1965.
