MultiMod Rack is a multiband matrix that divides the signal into frequency bands and allows adding different processes to each area of the spectrum...
But before even adding processors there are many useful things that can be done with the plugin in its initial state
In the lower left part we see a screen with an analyzer and the graphic representation of the crossovers. On the right we see the controls for each of them...
Under the display we can select the number of bands in which we want to divide the signal, for example TRIPLE (low-mid-high), DUAL (lows & highs) and WIDE (no bands).
Each band offers two panning models represented by a traditional balance control in the center and a dual blue arc for L-R, they sound different and have different use.
Each band has an independent harmonic control that works independently of any process inserted above.
In the case of WIDE we are adding harmonics to the full spectrum but if we use more than one band (DUAL or TRIPLE) we can control the saturation of each area separately.
For example in TRIPLE we could add harmonics in the mids to increase the presence of the synth, then use GAIN to return the volume of the band to unity.
The ability to control the harmonics of each band is not only useful as a method of enhancement, it can also help enrich the signal and control its dynamics before inserting the processors.
Next to XOVER we have a high quality 4-band EQ.
Similar to the newest Waves EQs like F6, you can grab the bands and move them on the graph or fine tune with the frequency, Q, gain controls and change the band type.
With the MIX control you can apply parallel equalization, although this applies to any circumstance in which the plugin is configured.
Above we see 5 modulators. Think of these as if they were 5 hands that can move the plugin buttons automatically without using automation.
Each modulator can be configured as an LFO or sequencer (seq). The SEQ works in steps, so you can assign changes to a specific range of time without affecting the rest.
The LFOs can follow a predetermined shape or you can draw any and change the speed, synchronization or the amount of effect.
The most different of all is AM, this instead of forcing an already predetermined form uses the dynamic amplitude of the original signal to change intensity with the music.
To assign a modulator to a button simply drag the name to the work area, the buttons that accept this type of process will change color.
Once assigned to a button the name of the modulator will appear below. Click here and drag the mouse up to define the amount of modulation applied to the button.
You can then return to the modulator screen that is in use to adjust its speed, etc.
The same modulator can be assigned to several buttons, for example to the gain control of an EQ band.
Notice how the EQ high shelf curve now moves according to the shape of the LFO in M1.
The LEVEL control in the modulator affects the amount of modulation in ALL controls where this modulator has been applied.
Remember that we have not yet inserted a single plugin at the top.
Modulators offer all kinds of settings to create the most incredible effects. Once you get what they are used for and how each control works, the limit is the craziest sounds ever.
