In this video I use a reference photo from a trip I took to Italy and interpret the colors and atmosphere in oil paint. Using only a palette/painting knife, this approach allows me to freely create my own impression of this quaint little town of Vernazza in Cinque Terra. I use reference photos (that I've taken) for just that and try not to copy literally. Try to remember the location or object and what you felt that drove you to make a painting from the photo.
