This is the fourth and final one of our animations for week one in our JCU Legal Ethics course.
In this video, we have a client who, on the face of it seems guilty, but who is insisting, despite all evidence to the contrary, that she has done nothing wrong. What's the ethical duty here? What values, principles and purposes might suggest the lawyer should try to get her acquitted? What values, principles and purposes suggest that the lawyer should refuse to act?
Are there any ethical non-negotiables at play? Which course of action would make the world a better place. Now think harder, which course of action would REALLY make the world a better place?
