Three years before it became a major 1949 song hit in the U.S., this old-timey-flavored 1946 recording had been one of that year’s biggest hits in the United Kingdom as recorded by England’s popular Preager dance band. “Cruising Down The River” had been the winning entry years earlier in a public songwriting competition, submitted by two middle-aged women. Two American versions of the song reached the top of the Billboard charts in 1949: Russ Morgan [ Ссылка ] and Blue Barron [ Ссылка ]
