Connor continues our Leviticus series with a closer look at the offerings – the burnt offering, in particular. Although sacrifices may seem odd to our culture, they were integral to the people of the Old Testament. From as early as the third chapter of Genesis, when God used animal skins to clothe Adam and Eve after the fall, through Cain and Abel, Noah, Jacob, and Moses – sacrifice was how people communicated with God. The burnt offering was different from other offerings because everything that was brought to the altar was burned up. Not a portion. All of it. And Scripture tells us that the aroma of the sacrifice was pleasing to Him. When we go to the cross (the new altar) to accept the blood of Jesus, all of our sins are burned away. They’re no longer there. And it pleases God. The burnt offering is an eternal reminder of our relationship with God and our desperate need for Jesus.
