On Tuesday, May 9, Costa’s frosh baseball team battled Redondo’s frosh team at Big Marine Field in Manhattan Beach. The game started at 3:15pm and ended at 4:15pm. The final score of the game had Costa up 4-1.
Costa’s freshman pitcher, Pierce Kingston, controlled most of the game, only allowing Redondo to score one run.
“I think I did pretty well and I had a great defense behind me to make the outs that I of course couldn’t make myself,” Kingston said.
Costa scored a run in the third inning from an RBI- run batted in- from Costa freshman, Max Mccalla, to go up 1-0. Costa’s coaches kept the team organized and kept them performing well. Costa finished the game strong, winning 4-1 with superb performances from Costa’s starting pitcher, Kingston, and Costa’s closer, Billy Bzura.
“We set out four goals in the beginning of the year: [the] first goal was sweeping Redondo, the second goal was winning Bay League, the third goal was winning 20+ games, and the fourth goal was getting better each and every day and they game accomplished all of them,” Mira Costa baseball coach Scott Peake said. “I’ll just say one thing: [this is the] best team I’ve had at Mira Costa on the frosh/soph level; [there is] a lot of chemistry on this team, a lot of confidence on this team and they deserve to be where they are now.”
“The chemistry [the team and I] have built together during practicing everyday has been insane, we’re all best friends, pretty much,” Kingston said.
Costa’s fanbase and parents filled the stands to cheer on their team to a Bay League title. Some fans believe this was Costa’s best game with them having their pitching ace on the mound and Costa’s bats working.
“I thought it was a really exciting game,” Mira Costa fan Andy Rohm said. “The final score was 4-1, Costa was really gutsy at the end, Redondo had some men on base, they brought in a new pitcher and he did a really good job to get the final out; again, I think it was a fun game to watch and a really gutsy performance by Mira Costa.
