Here is a very special drum: Ludwig's reissue of Ringo's classic snare, his 5.5" x 14" Jazz Festival in Black Oyster Pearl.
This one is a 2019 build, now called the Jazz Fest, part of Ludwig's Legacy Mahogany series, with their 3-ply Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany and their classic roundover bearing edge with 30° inner cut, in a particularly beautiful Vintage Black Oyster wrap.
Demos at various tunings with different treatments:
00:00 Medium Low Tension
02:34 Medium High Tension
04:33 High Tension
07:17 Low Tension
From Ludwig's website:
Ludwig is known for having the most extensive catalog of collectible drums. The 5.5"x14" Jazzfest snare is a “big fish” on that long list.
First introduced to the market in the 1950s as the Buddy Rich Model Snare Drum, the Jazzfest took on its first form in the early 1960s as a 5.5" depth snare. This version of the Jazzfest would come to join the iconic line-up of tracks that Ludwig snares drums dominate. It features a 3-ply Legacy Mahogany shell, vintage ‘64 snare bed, 8 twin lugs, 3-step baseball bat tone-control and a white “Reso-Coat” interior.
