A cute koala sits and scratches in a eucalyptus tree.
Koalas spend up to 20 hours a day napping in trees. Their low metabolic rate allows them to thrive on a not particularly energy-rich diet. Given that koalas only consume just a few of more than 700 species of eucalyptus trees, scientists consider them selective eaters. The IUCN currently lists koalas as a vulnerable species, as their populations are decreasing.
