STORYLINE
British soldiers from the 2nd Royal Regiment of Fusiliers cleared and secured areas in Sangin district in Afghanistan's restive Helmand province on Saturday, as part of the latest offensive by NATO-led troops.
Footage filmed by an AP Television News crew embedded with the British military showed armed troops searching houses in efforts of flush out Taliban fighters from the northern tip of the opium-producing province.
Flares were shot as search operations continued into the night.
On Saturday, an alliance statement said NATO-led troops had shot and killed a suspected Taliban fighter and wounded another in southern Afghanistan on Friday.
The incident happened close to the area where two separate explosions killed two NATO International Security Assistance Force soldiers earlier that day, a statement said.
NATO and Afghan troops launched their largest-ever offensive last month in southern Afghanistan to flush out Taliban militants from the northern tip of opium-producing Helmand province.
Scores of militants have been killed in a campaign to open the way for economic development, and to persuade Afghans to support President Hamid Karzai's feeble government.
