Graasten Castle Queen Ingrid's summer residence
Throughout her life in Denmark, Queen Ingrid enjoyed gathering her family around her at Graasten Castle. In 1935, she was married to the later Frederik IX, and they were given the castle as a summer residence. There have been several castles on the site since the 16th century. The current castle is the third in the row and dates from 1759. Today, the castle is made available to Queen Margrethe.
Graasten Slotshave is an English-inspired landscape garden that blends beautifully and naturally into the South Jutland landscape. In the summer months, you can enjoy the large rose and perennial beds, which shine in a multitude of colors, and there is an outdoor exhibition that tells about the development of the castle garden.
Graasten Castle Church in the north wing of Graasten Castle is the only thing left of Count Ahlefeldt's huge baroque castle from the 17th century. The church room is richly decorated with a pompous altarpiece and approximately 80 paintings. The beautiful space is used for public services and cultural events.
