Tadeusz Faliszewski – Kochaj mnie a będę twoją [Love Me And I’ll Be Yours] Tango z teatru Morskie Oko (Wars-Włast), Syrena-Electro 1930 (Polish)
NOTE: I’m glad that the first Polish recording presented in this channel in New Year 2020 is one of the most melodic and haunting Polish tangos composed in 1930 by maestro Henryk Wars. It’s instrumental version (played by Henryk Gold’s Orchestra) had been presented here a couple of weeks ago [ Ссылка ] Now I’m presenting the full-text version sung by the tireless prewar Polish crooner, Tadeusz Faliszewski. The lyrics – written by Andrzej Włast, called the “King Of Kitsch” – corresponds with one of the popular themes of tearjerker stories which were circulating in prewar Poland in form of B-movie dramas or the cheap episode novels published in an afternoon press: a sensitive poor girl with a golden heart is forced by her poverty to “sell her body”. This time, the “action” takes place in vast dark spaces of the transoceanic ship's boiler room. Among the red flames glittering from the boiling furnaces, group of half-naked stokers with the soot-smeared faces is waiting eagerly for the girl from the marina bar to come and enjoy them with her singing & dancing. Her defiant refrain “Love me, and I’ll be yours” slowly approaches them while she is stepping down the iron stairs into the pit full of the sweaty devil-like men and furnace flames… That song was presented on stage of the Warsaw cabaret Morskie Oko by the “Queen of Polish tango” Stanisława Nowicka, partnered by the most popular Polish heartthrob Eugeniusz Bodo with the group of revelers, and immediately it became a hit. Also today it is sometimes performed in the unusual way – as that special song deserves it. One of such outstanding modern performance is by Kazik & his group Kult (the popular rock-singers in today’s Poland) partnered by the old-style glamour Polish diva Violetta Villas [ Ссылка ]
