Take a look at a map of almost any historic European city, and chances are you will find a city centre filled with wiggly roads and corridors, contrasted by straight and thought out lines further out of the city center. Though this demarcation is often visible solely because of modern structures or roads, they are in fact a living remnant of the city that once was. They tell us a tale of urban growth and the development of a city's inhabitants. More specifically, it is a story about European city walls.
