Space Sweeper aims to tackle the space debris problem, after an in-orbit collision event or explosion. The spacecraft is equipped with an ultra-high power ablation laser, at 532 nanometres. The debris is partially vaporised, resulting in a delta-V to slow the particle down, and burn up in the atmosphere.
The Space Sweeper design is the result of a 10-week design process, starting from scratch, with a team of only 10 students. This project served as their graduation project (Design Synthesis Exercise) for the Aerospace Engineering BSc at TU Delft.
