In this Toolbox Tuesday session, held on October 18, 2022, speakers provided a basic understanding of the California Environmental Policy Act (CEQA) fundamentals, including the context and legislative intent of the CEQA statute and guidelines, guiding principles, environmental review process, and types of CEQA notices and documents. CEQA is one of California’s most significant environmental laws. CEQA requires public agencies to consider the environmental consequences of their discretionary actions. Speakers highlighted SCAG’s role as a CEQA commenting agency through the Intergovernmental Review Program and as a CEQA Lead Agency for the Connect SoCal Program Environmental Impact Report (PEIR).
