For this episode of Pro Tips, Mike Hernandez from Fieldcraft Survival is joined by Clay Croft from Expedition Overland to tap his deep overlanding knowledge to provide you with a crash course in how to choose the right tires for your overlanding rig, including size and composition, while giving you a look inside EO’s amazing bunker-style facility. And there’s a lot to cover.
“We typically want a tire that is going to provide us with some sort of advantage in the terrain that we're traveling,” Croft says. “It could be we're still doing a lot of highway miles. It could be dirt roads, or that could be like rock crawling or really aggressive environments where we're going to be demanding a lot from our tires.”
He also discusses all-terrain versus mud-terrain tires, the pros and cons of sticking with stock-size tires or going up a size or more, sectional density, and how you should think about temperature in relation to your tires.
