Fact: we live in jeans. We love dresses, skirts, trousers, etc., but denim is the true workhorse of our wardrobes, particularly come fall. So when one of our great industry pals—who also happens to have killer style—let us know she was launching a new collection that revolves around great denim, we paid attention.
Stella Ishii is the founder of The News, a showroom known by fashion's finest as an incubator for new collections to watch (Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, and The Row all passed through Ishii's capable hands). The first line designed by The News, 6397, captures the spirit of Stella's boyish, effortless style in a collection of slouchy denim, cozy sweaters, and a dress that gets that so-sexy-but-so-not-trying thing exactly right, among others.
Fashion director Tomoko Ogura popped by Ishii's showroom for an intro to the must-have collection, modeled by the gorgeous singer/songwriter Sophie Auster. Her EP, Red Weather, is out now, with a full-length album coming soon. If we were you, we'd take a listen—right after you check out the 6397 video.
