To put it simply, life in nineteenth century France wasn’t a walk in the park for women. I want to introduce you to three female French artists - Élisabeth Vigée-Le Brun, Rosa Bonheur, and Berthe Morisot - that helped in not just the progress of art, but of cultural attitudes towards women in general.
They basically said, "F*** it" to the male-dominated art world, and inserted themselves where no woman had been before. Although their backgrounds, interests, and artistic styles differ, their persistence and skill tie them together.
These three women are truly Art Heroes.
