Daly City, San Bruno, and Pacifica, California, are situated above the San Andreas Earthquake Fault. The ocean-bound cliffs of Daly City and Pacifica have been eroding since long before the West Coast cities were built, but the changes have been dramatic in the last 25 years. As a former resident of the V-shaped Surfside Apartments (now the Bluffs at 360 Esplanade Ave.), land that I once walked on and filmed from has disappeared into the Pacific Ocean below. Sadly for the people who lived here, several apartment buildings and homes have been lost as well. The battle of the elements is far from over. Much of Pacifica, like other coastal communities, has no defense against tsunamis either.
