Ep. 140 1/2 BONUS: MAKING A CHARMING LITTLE HOUSE MOSAIC!
Or How I make a charming house from a Dollar Tree base!
Starting with a house substrate from Dollar Tree, I decide to make a charming little door & vine mosaic!
The blue door needs to have a curve at the top, so I eyeball it and draw the curve with dry erase marker before nipping and grinding it.
Then I switched to a longer step so I could fit the door frame on it as well. Using strips of brown streaky glass that look like wood, I nip some longer pieces and then keystones to fit around the curve.
3:40 Once all the pieces are cut, I start gluing them in place using Weldbond. I add white siding strips after the door is in place.
4:36 Before I go any further on the house, I need to grout it! Using Spectralock 1 Pre-mixed grout in Natural gray. NO SLAKING! YAY! I spread it on with my gloved hand so I don't even have any tools to clean up when I am done.
5:45 I pull some Glue Foil out of my artistic hoarding stash! This is a product I purchase several years ago and it is a minor miracle that I was able to locate it for this project. (Also - I thought it was copper, but the aluminum color works just as well.) I find it cuts easily with scissors, is easy to emboss and is very lightweight. I used a mechanical pencil to emboss little screws on the back. It blew all over when I tried to use the heat gun on it, so I tacked it down with a tiny bit of Weldbond to hold it in place. Then I activated the heck out of that heat activated adhesive with my heat gun!
8:55 I show a little test embossing I made of a feather on the Glue Foil, a product that I purchased many years ago. I have no idea if it is still available!!! Art Suppliers might be the best place to look.
9:15 I start on the vine, using a green wire I picked up at Dollar Tree a while ago. Using needle nosed pliers, I twist a little curl into the end of several pieces. Then I add leaves made from vase filler, along with millefiori flowers, using Gorilla Glue clear contact adhesive.
11:08 Gorilla Glue contact adhesive review. Summary: Strong, but toxic. Similar to E6000.
