Hey in this video we will talk about the self efficacy theory. It's a theory proposed by the psychologist Albert Bandura. Self-efficacy is a person’s belief in their ability to succeed in a particular situation.
According to Bandura, there are four main sources that contribute to our sense of self-efficacy:
Mastery Experience:
This is all about personal achievements and experiences. When you succeed at something, your belief in your ability to handle similar tasks in the future strengthens. So let's say you passed the introduction to psychology exam that will give you the belief that you can pass other exams like it in the future.
Vicarious Experience:
This involves observing others succeed or fail in similar situations. Ever watched someone tackle a challenge and felt inspired? That's the power of vicarious experience shaping your self-efficacy. So I was watching this movie about Diana Nyad a few months back and watching her succeed at swimming 110 miles at the age of 64, made me feel like I could succeed at a marathon.
Verbal Persuasion:
Sometimes, all it takes is a few encouraging words. Positive feedback and affirmations from others can significantly boost your confidence.
Emotional and Physiological States:
Your own emotional and physical reactions can influence your self-efficacy. Feeling anxious or stressed? It might impact your belief in your capabilities. Learning to manage these reactions is crucial.
