Let's first understand what are adenoids? Adenoids are glands which are born on the nasal floor on the back side of the nose. So when the child lies down and the palate falls backwards the palate tends to stick to the adenoids and the nasal passage becomes unavailable for breathing. Such cases you will often found that the child sleeps with the mouth open, snores very heavily in the night and over a period of time the teeth tend to come out because there's a lot of mouth breathing. In a lot of cases we also find that the child starts thumb sucking because when he pushes the thumb he doesn't realize it but when he puts the thumb in a part of the mouth is open and he's able to breathe better. When you see such symptoms in your children you will also see that these children tend to have very frequent ear infections.
