Police in Newcastle have declared a major incident after around 500 homes were left without power following an underground electrical fire at around 3.20pm in Cowgate. Northumbria Police superintendent George Maratty said the Northern Powergrid were 'doing all they can 'to get power back up and running. Three women, believe to be in their 30s or 40s, were killed yesterday when a Renault Clio and a white Scania lorry collided at around 6.15am on the A15 at Baston, South of Bourne. Cambridgeshire Constabulary said another man had died during an crash that involved three vehicles on the A47 near Peterborough shortly before 10am.
