Have you heard of the Red Arrows? They are a part of the U.K.’s Royal Air Force that consists of fighter pilots that can maneuver planes in the air like pros. They’re officially known as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team.
They were initially formed in late 1964 and have since grown to have a prominent British popular culture. Their aerobatic displays become an important and entertaining fixture of British summer events.
The team was increased to nine members in 1966, which enabled them to develop their famous Diamond Nine formation. Today, the Red Arrows have performed over 5,000 displays in 57 countries around the world.
In this video, we bring you one such display. The flight teams can be seen flying BAE Hawk T1 jets, which they started flying in 1979. Hawks fly as near as 6 ft (1.8 m) during the show, and they can fly as low as 100 ft (30 m).
That’s definitely some cool acrobatic flying!
The planes also have symmetrical airfoils that allow them to fly upside down.
But what about the cool vapor trails they leave behind? What kind of magic is that? To create these vapor trails, diesel is pumped into the exhaust, and it instantly turns to smoke. Meanwhile, dyes are added to produce different colors.
All together, it makes for a mesmerizing show not to be missed. Don’t believe us?
