Correct trimming of the wire in Orthodontics is important to avoid digging into gums or cheek tissue in the posterior of the mouth. It has to be trimmed flush.
Always use a Distal end cutter to trim wire as it cuts wires close to the buccal tube and safely holds the distal ends. When cutting the wire make sure the distal end cutter is perpendicular to the wire and not move it up and down as it can break the wire. Always ensure the wire is held by the cutter when removing them from the mouth.
It is advised to always use a sharp and well-maintained Distal end cutter for this procedure.
