In 2010, I was given a stack of random CDs and CD-R’s. A DVD-R made its way in there and "GNR STL RIOT" was written in black marker. I thought that it was just a collection of news clips of stuff that I really don't care about. I'm more about the music than the artists and their behavior, for the most part.
Some time later, I skimmed through the DVD-R and here is what we've got. I know nothing about it, really. I also figured that it wasn’t anything that wasn’t on YouTube at the time but I was wrong. After watching it in full with my wife who had recently become a Guns N’ Roses fan, I realized that more fans needed to see it.
I’ve lost track of how many times that it was taken down because of copyright violations, only to come back automatically, then get hit with copyright violations months later. I don’t make any money off of it and it breathes new life into the work of the original producers. Thank you to whoever at YouTube that continues to keep this alive.
Extra stuff.
As a St. Louis resident, the 1991 situation never bothered me. Their hatred for St. Louis was evident in the liner notes of Use Your Illusion 1\2 and the Don’t Cry videos (Original and Alt lyrics). I just thought it was funny. The thing that wasn’t funny was they never would play here again for 26 years.
In the 2017 St. Louis concert, Axl’s first words to the St. Louis crowd were along the lines of “St. Louis. It’s been a while.” The crowd laughed and the show began. We were hoping to hear more from him at the time but keeping things short and sweet was all that was needed. They played one or or two songs not on the setlist and it made the St. Louis concert feel special. The extra security, off duty police and medical staff on hand had a nervous look about them the entire night but everyone went home happy.
