On April 20, 2024 at 12:32 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of Burnham Dr. in reference to a male and female involved in a disturbance with shots fired. Officers arrived at the apartments where they attempted to locate the disturbance. The responding officers located the disturbance and made contact with a 26 year old male at the door of the apartment. As soon as officers contacted the suspect, a struggle ensued. The male suspect produced a gun, shooting and striking one of the officers. One of the assisting officers returned fire, striking the male who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The officer was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition at this time.
The Corpus Christi Police Officers who were involved will be placed on paid administrative leave, in accordance with current department practice and policy.
